The beginning

My son and his wife helped me create this blog this summer. Interestingly, I decided on the name of "Travelers Rest" and then we went there. It is a quaint town in South Carolina, not far from Greenville. There is a coffee shop there that invites one to "rest", with mounds of burlap bags with varied coffee beans from across the world.

The idea behind the name was not from the town, but rather that we are travelers in this world, and our "rest" is truly alone in Jesus Christ. He says we are to come to Him, all who are weary and He will give us rest. He is our rest. He says His yoke is light. God, along with everything else, created rest. He rested on the seventh day following His magnificent creation. He dictated that we are to rest one day out of seven, allow our land to rest, one year out of seven, etc.

How many of us truly do find rest? Ever, much less one day a week? What does it mean to "rest"? To rest in Him? I have many more questions than answers these days. I often go at such a pace, I find it difficult to rest. Oh, I can laze around on a Saturday morning for awhile, but I'm not sure that qualifies as rest when inevitably I am scrambling to accomplish all that I must the remainder of the weekend to be ready for Monday morning. And does my mind ever truly rest? I feel God is about to teach me about rest, especially resting in Him.

I STRIVE so hard - mostly for seemingly good reasons. I am doing for my family, friends, people from work or church, my home, my health and my work. The question keeps coming to me, though. When its all said and done and its time to really enter into REST, which of it matters and which of it was pointless striving? Aahhh. Perhaps even this blog......
